Summer Workshops

Marsha Woody Academy of Dance announces the 2023 Summer Workshop offering Ballet, Jazz, Leaps & Turns, Acrobatics and PBT with our MWAD staff.

Classes for students 8-Year-olds through Adults will be held June 5th – 8th. The summer workshop is designed specifically for serious dancers who are ready to be challenged! With limited class sizes and an intimate studio setting, each dancer will enjoy the individualized attention only the summer workshop can provide.

All Beaumont Civic Ballet Company members are required to take the workshop.

Girls
attire for All Classes will be any style or color leotard, pink tights, with ballet or jazz shoes, and hair in a bun!

Boys will wear any color tights, colored tops, white ballet shoes or jazz sneakers. (ALL Boys are on scholarship for classes.)

Please REGISTER online ASAP to reserve your place. Tuition must be paid in full before or on the first day of Workshop. Fill out one form per student.

Workshop Faculty

Monique Steinhagen began her training from her mother, Marsha Woody Zummo, at the age of 4 and became a student assistant at sixteen. She has studied under renowned teachers such as Robert Joffrey, David Howard, and the late Alexandra Danilova, Stanley Williams, and John Magness to mention a few; she studied two summers in New York City including the prestigious School of American Ballet, home of the New York City Ballet. Monique became a Junior Company member of Beaumont Civic Ballet at the age of ten, performing in BCB’s firstNutcracker as a boy in Prologue, and later danced principal roles such as Snow Queen, Mirletons & Sugar Plum Fairy as a Senior Company member.

Megan Forgas Anderson began her dance training at Marsha Woody Academy and was a Jr. Company member with Beaumont Civic Ballet at the age of 11.  At the age of 16, she choreographed her first piece for Beaumont Civic Ballet, which was performed at the National Regional Dance America Festival.  In 1996 through 1998, she received the Monticello Award for Excellence in Choreography and the Regional Dance America Award for Excellence in Choreography.  Ms. Megan choreographed Snow White and the Seven DwarfsAlice in Wonderland, & recently Twistin’ the Night Away which all have been extremely successful for BCB.  She continues to teach and choreograph for the Academy and Beaumont Civic Ballet as well as teaching all levels in the Academy.

Gwen Cormier has had her training from the Marsha Woody Academy since the age of 4 and was a member of the Beaumont Civic Ballet Company performing principal roles. She is presently teaching the Hip Hop classes at the Academy and is our substitute teacher & assistant for all levels of dance at MWAD. Miss Gwen will graduate from Lamar University in May 2019 majoring in General Studies. She has a part time job as a Junior Youth Minister at St. Mary’s in Fannett, Texas; and in her spare time she is a second year performing member of the Houston Rockets Launch Crew.

Allison Odom Pringle is originally from Beaumont, TX., a former student of Marsha Woody Academy and a member of Beaumont Civic Ballet Co. Allison went on to dance professionally as a soloist and/or principal with the Houston Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet Theatre. While training as a young member of the Beaumont Civic Ballet and later as a professional dancer with Tulsa Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, And Houston Ballet. Allison worked with leading choreographers and dancers such as Roman Jasinski, Natalia Krassovska, Alexandra Danilova, Frederic Franklin, Ben Stevenson, Richard Munro, Dane LaFontsee, Ron Cunningham, Julio deBittencourt, Esmeralda Agoglia, and Robert Scevers to name a few. Roman Jasinski, former artistic director of Tulsa Ballet is quoted as saying, “From the moment Allison joined TBT, her combination of natural talent and exquisite technique helped her quickly rise through the ranks.” Currently Allison resides in Tulsa, OK with her husband Brady and their three children. She guest teaches all over Texas and is a part of the Oral Roberts University dance faculty.

Tammy Anderud started her training at the Marsha Woody Academy at the age of 9 in all subjects and was a member of Beaumont Civic Ballet at 10. She has continued to be an active part of Beaumont Civic Ballet, performing in The Nutcracker, has choreographed for Beaumont Civic Ballet and the Regional Dance America, SW Festival. After Tammy got her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Baylor University she came to Beaumont and started her busy career. Ms. Tammy’s love for dance brought her part time to MWAD right away upon her arrival in town. She has served as President of the Junior League of Beaumont, was a surgical nurse and general manager of St. Elizabeth Hospital OR, chief nurse of SETX Bariatric Center over 13 years, and now is an Administrative Pastor at Praise Church. She continues to choreograph and teach in the Academy and for Beaumont Civic Ballet on occasion. She is married to Tosh Anderud and has two children, Kyria (7) and Tristan (6).

MacKenzie Cumpian started at Marsha Woody Academy at the age of 3. She took ballet, pointe, tap, jazz & lyrical classes through her senior year graduating in 2015. She was a member of BCB’s Jr. Co. and later Sr. Co. dancing solo/principal roles. At West Brook she was on the Stars Drill Team as a lieutenant for 3 years. When she graduated, she continued her drill team career as a Kilgore College Rangerette for 2 years. At present she is a Studio Art major at Lamar University, and is a member of the Lamar Dance Team. Miss Mac will be teaching the Lyrical classes and is a substitute teacher and assistant in all levels of dance at MWAD.
